• Contains 1 oz. Troy of .999 Fine Silver

• Obverse: A depiction of events in the skies over Los Angeles on February 25th, 1942.  “BATTLE” across the upper circumference, and “LOS ANGELES” below.

• Reverse: Two large UFOs with Intaglio Mint on top UFO, and M6 on lower UFO, set on a background of rows of smaller UFOs.  Hallmark at 6pm, “1 TROY OUNCE .999 FINE SILVER.”

February 25th, 1942, in the early morning hours, searchlights covered unidentified flying objects over Los Angeles.  At the time, it was believed the city was under attack by Japan.  Air raid sirens rang out at 2:25 am and a total blackout was ordered.  Searchlights, .50-caliber machine guns, and anti-aircraft shells were fired into the sky for over 2 hours, damaging several buildings and vehicles, but no aircraft were identified.  UFO conspiracy theories suggest this event is evidence of an extraterrestrial visit.  It is still unknown what was flying over Los Angeles in 1942.

We designed the artwork in-house based on news articles that documented the event, then sent over the digital renderings to our friends over at Intaglio Mint for die cutting and the final striking of each round. We really enjoyed bringing a piece of L.A. history to life on a silver round.
