This C103GP P’KAL Knife was designed by Spyderco in collaboration with American Undercover Agency Officer/Practitioner Craig Douglas to explicitly support his Protection Methodology.
Douglas’s Exceptional Operational Expertise in High-Risk, Undercover Encounters and Environments exposed severe limitations to conventional Pocket Utility Folding Knife Design During Blade Deployment in Close Physical Protection Encounters. Traditional Knife Folders, Whilst Designed for Utility Knife Use, Failed Dynamically as a Defensive or Protection Knife. Ergonomic Utility Blades tested Poorly by Douglas when subjected to Physical Forces such as Clinch Or Ground Struggle Situations.
Therefore, Douglas’s P’Kal Reverse Edge Blade Orientation (RG-EI) Referred to as The “Icepick Grip” and the Pant Pull Pocket Protrusion (PPPP) Emerson’s Knife Notch, Flips Open Powerfully, Fully Extending when Pulled from the Pocket and Locking the Inward Facing Crucible CPM S30V Blade Easily and Safely in Place.

INVENTOR Ernest Emerson: The Patented Emerson Opener: Popularized by Ernest Emerson’s Knife Co., Created a Device Which Consists of a Treaded Metal Protrusion From the Spine of the P’Kal C103GP. As the Knife is Drawn from the Pocket this Pant Pull Pocket Protrusion (PPPP) Catches on the Rear Seam of the Pants Pocket Pulling the Blade Fully Open and Locking it into Position Immediately after Clearing the Pocket.
NOTE: If a user prefers manual opening or wishes to avoid pocket wear, this Protrusion (The Emerson Opener) can be easily unthreaded and removed.
The P’Kal utilizes a Manual, Wave-Assisted, or Opening-Hole folder construction which Locks Via a Caged Ball Bearing; it features no Automatic Action Of Lever-Actuated Spring Deployment or Lever Locking Tabs. The C103GP is a Manual Movement Activated Opener. Natural to Organic; in Advantageous Knife Deployment Defensive Postures.
